    Usage & maintenance

Ethnicraft furniture is designed for indoor use. Each piece of our collection is hand-polished, a process that encourages the natural oils of the teak to rise to the surface. This results in a finish that preserves the characteristic hardiness of the wood. The high density of teak also means that stains remain on the surface and do not penetrate the wood easily.

    Daily care

Sponge with dishwashing soap solution: Regular washing will make the wood increasingly resistant to marks and stains as it absorbs more soap over time. Always clean in the direction of the wood grain and never use a scouring pad or this might scratch the wood.

Stain-absorbing powder: This is readily available in DIY stores and can be used to remove oil, grease and fat stains. Any residue can be removed with extra fine sand paper (minimum 320 grit) and polished with glass to reveal the layer of oils within. Always sand and polish in the direction of the wood grain.

    Preventive treatment

Wax Treatment: Ensure that the surface to be waxed is clean. Next, spread the wax on it, always wiping in the direction of the wood grain. Then, let it dry for 15 minutes. You may choose to repeat the process for optimal results. To ensure constant protection, it is advisable to reapply the wax every 3-4 months. This product is not recommended for furniture that will often get wet. Should this happen, wipe using a dry cloth or tissue; do not rub. It is not advisable to place hot items in direct contact with the waxed surface as well. Instead, always use a coaster. We sell high quality wax treatment products at our online store (under Accessories).

Water-based topcoat: This permanent treatment is most appropriate for furniture that is highly susceptible to oil, grease and fat stains. However, this may result in a slightly darker finish. In the unlikely event that scratches or marks appear subsequently, they can be removed locally with extra fine sandpaper (minimum 320 grit). Only the affected part needs to be retreated to restore the initial coating and to protect the surface again. We offer the water-based topcoat treatment both before and after purchase at no extra charge.
